Clarion Consultants have been working with Johnson Engineering and the Village staff to design and streamline the Village’s first Land Development Code.
They presented a diagnosis of themes and goals along with a detailed outline of suggestions for the Code. The four themes are 1) creating a user-friendly code, 2) implementing the Comprehensive Plan, 3) restructuring, modernizing and tailoring the zone districts to Implement the Comprehensive Plan and 4) consider modernizing the site development standards and ensure their consistency with the Comprehensive Plan.
They are addressing the landscaping and buffering codes as they pertain to complete streets, tree protection standards maintaining the vegetation and heritage trees that already exist, as well as the installation of new landscaping.
They intend to establish minimum criteria to protect neighborhoods from encroachment from issues related to height, light, noise, hours of operation, parking, drive-through facilities, signage, etc. They will be refining these standards and looking for additional recommendations.
Once they have received all comments, they will be preparing a draft Code in two installments. They will test the draft Code language and compare how it would work for a development with the old, transitional Code and the new Code. (Presentation)
