Leadership Estero Social Issues Day
Leadership Estero recently spent a powerful and eye-opening day immersed in the real-world challenges and solutions shaping our community during Social Issues Day on February 20.
The experience began in Bonita Springs with a visit to Cafe of Life. Class members not only learned about the organization’s mission to serve individuals and families in need, but also rolled up their sleeves alongside community partners. The group assisted at Leitner Neighborhood Park and partnered with Gargiulo to help serve Café of Life clients—turning insight into action.
From there, the class visited the Florida Lions Eye Clinic for a tour and deeper understanding of the essential vision services they provide to underserved residents. At Riverside Park, participants took part in a “lunch challenge,” navigating meal options with limited cash to better understand the daily realities many families face.
The afternoon continued with visits to the Literacy Council of Gulf Coast and the Bonita Springs Assistance Office, where class members learned about programs addressing literacy, financial hardship, and crisis support.
Returning to Estero, the group concluded the day with United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades, gaining valuable perspective on regional collaboration and long-term strategies for community impact.
Social Issues Day was more than a series of site visits—it was a hands-on exploration of the challenges many neighbors face and the dedicated organizations working tirelessly to provide solutions. Leadership Estero participants left with deeper awareness, meaningful connections, and renewed commitment to strengthening the greater Estero community.
We extend sincere appreciation to each organization that welcomed the class and shared their time, expertise, and passion for service. Their work is making a lasting difference across our region.
